Combat racing
In Pandora, your past was taken from you, and you were handed a car. Commander Pip promises one wish and freedom to whoever completes his trials. While he gathers the results, you have to figure out how to reach the next finish line.
We’re making Smoke and Flame, combat racing across the ages, where other people’s ambitions collide at speed. Pip has brought together participants from different eras and erased their memories. Their arrogance, curiosity, and habit of ordering others around survived the procedure remarkably well. Now they have to share the track and fight for a place at the finish. Pip is waiting for something interesting to observe.
You enter a turn alongside a rival. You could shove them aside, but the impact will change your own line, too. You could fire instead, leaving less charge for a boost to the finish. You have to decide before the anger from the previous collision has time to cool. Engine, gunfire, a risky overtake—and that familiar urge to try again right away, because now you know where you went wrong.
In the garage, the noise dies down. You can catch your breath, change your car’s setup, and get ready for the next race. Pip is there, too: judging, making snide remarks, and trying to keep up the appearance of being in complete control. His subjects still make their own decisions, and those are exactly what he has to observe.
We want this game to give you the kind of thrill that makes you grip the wheel tighter, with dark humor that gradually reveals the cost of what’s happening. You can celebrate a win, get angry at a rival, and fall in love with your car. Freedom is still being promised by the person who abducted you.
